So, hey, pivoting, in life and writing…I am guessing a fair few of you have had the same on/off relationship with the written word? And in today’s Tech World, your “getting a voice” has become more and more difficult?
If you have read my previous autobiog-type newsletters, you will have seen:
Obnoxious Teenager Makes History
I will open by admitting, I was not the best son there ever was, mostly when I turned 13 years old. The devil was in me and whilst up to that point I had been “A” streamed in the educational system, suddenly the only subjects that offered many any creative outlet (that I actually enjoyed) were English and Art.
And yes, life gets in the way, the need for career changes or shifts in relationships can hamper one’s creativity…agreed?
Now, where I, personally, am is in the pivot I always hankered for…writing…I love scribbling, I love having an opinion, even if it seems controversial, but I also focus on creative fiction, something I haven’t brought to the “table” for many, many years…but rest assured, it’s both in my brain and in my copious notes.
The irony these days is that many are harnessing AI to create fiction (along with any form of written work)…so am I too late?…are you?
I say…
NO!
From my point of view, we live in a time where, yes, AI can create written content, but fails to grab the emotion and complexities of a human mind based on their real-life experiences and that special human creativity…
Agreed?
My aim, these days, is to refire/pivot back into creative writing, connect with “real” authors, review and promote real authors, those I feel have substance beyond the bot creation…
Is that a “thing”?
What do YOU think?
At this point in my reset, a reset borne from life events and at a slightly more mature stage of my life (lol), writing is my “thing”.
Where are you in the writing process?
What advice can you give to other scribblers?
Do you think all is lost to the digital scribbler bot?
I still say, “We, the humans, will always write with heart and a combination of experiences a computer will never know, even though they may be able to emulate it to some degree”…
Much like the brush strokes of an artist painting, I feel writing is a similar creative process, forming real images in the human brain, not sourcing similar word patterns from text available to AI.
Thoughts?
Look, whether you are a reader or a writer, my aim is to promote the written HUMAN word…Yes, I get it that we can harness AI as a tool to improve our output, our structure or research, much like I used to do with dictionaries, thesauruses and searches for evidence and ideas via Google…times have changed for sure.
We pivot, but we do NOT lose our creativity.
What are your thoughts?
What are your experiences?
One thing I am doing at the moment is connecting with authors with a similar mind set and that want their work “everywhere”…via my personal blog Dominus Markham, I have started to create a reviews section and if any of you would like to feature there, keeping in mind I use around 27 Social Media Profiles to promote anything on my blog…DROP ME A LINE…IT’S FREE!!
